Kimberley Walsh shows off her lighter blonde bob as singer reveals she got into Girls Aloud 'by default' before returning to her musical roots

She was on hand to discuss her latest role in a theatrical adaptation of 80s classic Big.

But less was certainly more as Kimberley Walsh revealed a new, shorter, and significantly blonder hairstyle while promoting the West End musical on Friday’s edition of This Morning.

The former Girls Aloud star, 37, showed off the distinctive bob as she appeared on the daily magazine show alongside TV veteran Matthew Kelly, her co-star in the theatrical production.

Kimberley originally altered her hair colour in April, but it appeared to be significantly lighter during her latest TV appearance.

The singer will take to the stage at London's Dominion Theatre when the show, an adaptation of the classic feel-good comedy starring Tom Hanks, launches in September.

And she admits the role represents a return to her musical roots after spending much of the last two decades touring and recording with Girls Aloud.

'I grew up doing musical theatre,' she told This Morning hosts Davina McCall and Rochelle Humes.

'I felt like I got into Girls Aloud by default and it was like I went back... I feel so at home on the stage.'

Her appearance on the show came shortly after Davina and Rochelle were replaced by miniature versions of themselves as they co-hosted This Morning for the first time on Friday.

The two friends were paying tribute to the news that Big has been turned into an extravagant West End musical ahead of Kimberley and Matthew's joint interview.

Joined in the ITV studio by Zoltar’s legendary fortune telling fairground machine - a double of the one famously used in the 1988 film - Davina pulled one of its 'magical' tickets as proceedings got underway.

'We wish to be small,' said the pair - and in a puff of studio smoke their mini-me lookalikes, complete with identical outfits, were revealed.

'Oh wow, we’re small again!' announced mini-Davina, to which mini-Rochelle responded: 'Yes, let’s get on with the show.'

Returning to the screen moments later, Rochelle said: 'Well, I mean, that was nice. Not a care in the world… We also read a lot better!'

This Morning airs weekdays at 10.30am on ITV1.
