2020 Corvette Stingray To Hit 194 MPH In Base Guise, Drop To 184 MPH With Z51 Pack

Chevrolet has confirmed that the 2020 Corvette Stingray can run through to a top speed of 194 mph (312 km/h) in entry-level guise.

Chevrolet recently announced pricing details for the mid-engined C8 Corvette and confirmed that as many had expected, it will start at $59,995. For that price, customers will find themselves in the cabin of a supercar that can almost hit 200 mph (320 km/h).

That’s impressive but the base Corvette Stingray isn’t the one we would recommend people buy. Instead, fitting the new car with the available Z51 Performance Package is probably the way to go if you’re looking for the best track-performance and handling characteristics. The Z51 pack can be added to any Corvette trim level for $5,000 and includes a performance exhaust, performance suspension, electronic limited-slip different, enlarged brakes, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, enhanced cooling and new front brake cooling inlets.

The Z51 Performance Package also includes a front splitter and rear wing that combine to deliver 400 lbs (181 kg) of downforce. While improving handling, this does drop the top speed of the Z51 to 184 mph (296 km/h), but that’s still more than enough for street use and pretty much any track in the United States.

All 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray models are powered by a 6.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8 engine pumping out 490 hp and 465 lb-ft (630 Nm) of torque. Should customers opt for the available $1195 performance exhaust system, grunt increases to 495 hp and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm). Power is sent exclusively to the rear wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and the Z51-equipped Corvette Stingray can hit 60 mph (96 km/) in under three seconds.
