Love Island bosses 'sought out PG contestants who DIDN'T want to have sex on TV'

Love Island bosses reportedly purposely cast contestants who weren't interested in having sex on television in a bid to avoid another duty of care crisis.

The decision was a 'necessary evil' to protect the show, which came under fire following the deaths of former contestants Mike Thalassitis and Sophie Gradon, insiders told The Sun.

Following her exit from the villa last week, Anna Vakili, 28, told the publication that she informed the casting team that she didn't want to have sex on screen and believed many of her fellow Islanders told them the same thing.

In previous years the hit ITV series showed couples romping in various places around the villa, but later revealed their decision to cut back on under-the-sheets action.

A source revealed: 'The bosses are concerned that it remains in a precarious position as a result of the storm it faced this year over their duty of care standards.

'They have decided to err on the side of caution and limit the raunchier content that is aired.'

MailOnline have contacted Love Island for further comment.

Anna mirrored this view with her own experience and said: 'I think this year they looked for PG. The funny thing is that they asked me in an interview beforehand "Would you...?" And I didn’t even let them finish. I said "I wouldn’t have sex on TV."

The pharmacist admitted that she thought most of the contestants were too scared to talk about sex on camera and had no interest in getting frisky.

She revealed that she only people who would openly discuss their desire to get intimate beneath the sheets were herself and self-confessed 'horny devil' Maura Higgins.

Anna's admission comes after Love Island fans flocked to Twitter during a recent episode of the show to blast the girls of the villa for having 'double standards', after Curtis refused to have sex with Maura.

Although Curtis made it clear before entering the villa he had no interest in onscreen love-making, Maura appears to be the exception to the rule was keen to seal the deal with her beau.

As the other Islanders settled into their beds for the night, Maura was seen writhing around on top of Curtis under the covers, clearly keen to consummate their relationship.

Yet Curtis' reply was that the time wasn't right and that he had a headache.

This did not go down well with the feisty Irishwoman who was seen the next day complaining to the other girls, who appeared outraged about it.

'If I was laying it on Tommy and he was giving me nothing, I would have kicked him out of the bed,' Molly-Mae said, referring to her beau.

Po-faced, Maura complained she 'just wanted an orgasm' and for Curtis to 'drip all over her'.

While this mortified viewers on it's own, the public were more outraged at the girls' attitude to sex, with many claiming that, had the boys been speaking that way about a woman who didn't want to have sex, it would have been branded sexist and disrespectful.

'ARE YOU LOT HEARING THIS? On my life if the lads were having this conversation Girl Power would be exploding,' one person raged.

'We can't mouth off about men not taking "No" for an answer and then kick off when they say "No" to us. Respect the "NO",' another posted.

A third wrote: '"I have needs”, that’s the rank excuse scumbag guys use. If guys had the “id be livid if she didn’t f**k me” mentality there would be outrage. These girls are rank.'

'Imagine the reaction if Curtis was having a tantrum because Maura wouldn’t have sex with him? Double standards,' another person tweeted.

'Curtis doesn’t owe Maura an explanation for why he doesn’t wanna have sex. Maura wouldn’t have to give an explanations so why does Curtis?' a fifth added.

A sixth tweeter posted: 'The double standards with what Maura gets away with makes me very uncomfortable!'

'Now let's imagine this is a lad saying this stuff about not getting sex! Love island would be getting investigated and men turfed out!' someone else added.

Followed by another who tweeted: 'Maura really showing double standards, nobody should have to explain why they’ve said no.'

Unsurprisingly, another brought up the incident earlier in the season when ex-Islander Tom made a crude comment about Maura being 'all mouth'.

They penned: 'Sorry but the way Maura DESTROYED Tom just for making a joke (yes it was inappropriate but it wasn't malicious) only to then actually have a go at Curtis because he didn't want sex. Leave me out with those f**king double standards Maura - biggest hypocrite in there.'

Maura had told Curtis she 'wanted' him while they were in bed the night before, with him insisting that 'tonight is not the night'.

She argued back: 'If tonight is not the night, when is the night?'

She then stroppily turned away from him in the bed, in a huff, with him asking why she was angry with him.

The next morning she was seen rolling her eyes at him when he offered to make her a coffee.

Later they talked it through, with Curtis telling Maura he was, 'drained from looking after the [plastic] babies', also adding that what Anna had said to him [about being a narcissist] was playing on his mind.

He then added: 'I’d love to rip your clothes off but last night was not the time.'

Love Island continues on Sunday on ITV2 from 9PM
