Julianne Moore looked absolutely stunning as she graced the red carpet at the Tár premiere at the 79th Venice International Film Festival on Thursday. 

The 61-year-old American actress took the plunge in a glamorous - and equally daring - black velvet dress.

The red head looked every inch the Hollywood star, completing her look with an incredible diamond necklace and matching earrings.

Julianne's gown featured a strapless design and a deep V-cut over the bust and a slim-fit design.  

The actress, who is known for films including Crazy, Stupid, Love. and the show 30 Rock, let her porcelain skin shine without a hint of fake tan. 

She was glowing as she hit the red carpet wearing makeup including dewy foundation, layers of bronzer, a nude lip and a bronzed eye.

Other stars at the premiere of Tár included Australian actress Cate Blanchett, 53, who looked incredible in an eye-catching floral and velvet jumpsuit.

Filmed in Berlin last year, the plot follows Cate Blanchett's character, Lydia Tár, as she rises to become the first-ever female conductor of a German orchestra.

The trailer hints the film, directed by Todd Field, will deal with themes of power and madness.

This is only the third film Field has made and his first since 2007's Little Children. Despite his limited output, Field's movies have been nominated for eight Oscars.

Attracting the biggest stars, the film festival is held annually on the island of the Lido in the Venice Lagoon. With movie screenings taking place in the historic Palazzo del Cinema on the Lungomare Marconi.

Julianne is also serving as Jury President at this year's star-studded ceremony. 

Other members of this years jury, which will be presided over by Moore, include Argentinian director Mariano Cohn, British author Kazuo Ishiguro and Iranian actress Leila Hatami.

Brendan Fraser's moving drama The Whale, where he plays an obese professor, will also compete alongside films starring Cate Blanchett, Hugh Jackman and Colin Farrell.

Julianne plays a leading role in Jesse Eisenberg's directorial debut in the film When You Finish Saving The World.

She's also set to star in the film May December alongside Natalie Portman and the upcoming film Mothertrucker.
