Viewers abandon Channel Nine's SeaChange reboot as ratings drop by 254,000 for the second episode

Channel Nine's reboot of the much-loved Australian drama SeaChange premiered to strong ratings last week, drawing 787,000 metro viewers.

But for Tuesday night's episode, this number had fallen by 254,000.

SeaChange attracted just 533,000 viewers in the five capital cities, and was beaten in the ratings by Andrew Denton's Interview on Channel Seven.

According to Mumbrella, 634,000 metro viewers tuned in to see Andrew Denton interview Julie Bishop, Australia's former Foreign Minister.

Seven News was the most-watched program of the night, with 1.079 million metro viewers tuning in.

Meanwhile, Home and Away was the most-watched soap, drawing 635,000 viewers.

SeaChange originally aired on the ABC for just 39 episodes over three seasons.

Almost two decades after the show last aired, eager viewers returned to Pearl Bay last week as Laura Gibson (Sigrid Thornton) tried to piece together her life after years living overseas.

In addition to Sigrid's character making a comeback, John Howard reprised his role as Bob Jelly, who had just been released from prison for fraud.

New cast members include actress Brooke Satchwell as Miranda Gibson, Laura's oldest child, and Dan Wyllie as Ben Russo, the new owner of a local pub.

Darren McMullen, Katrina Milosevic, Kate Lister, Ella Newton and Alex Tarrant also join the star-studded cast.

SeaChange continues Tuesday at 8:40pm on Channel Nine
