'The rules are very clear. I feel cheated by this couple': The Block judge Neale Whitaker unleashes on Jesse and Mel as they fail to complete their en-suite and deliver 'grey tomb' instead

On Sunday night's episode of The Block, tempers flared when Jesse and Mel failed to deliver an en-suite on time.

The Victorian couple took a punt on spending extra time on their bedroom instead, hoping to score highly.

But in doing so they left their spare bathroom in shambles, with paint marks all over the space, unfinished flooring and exposed walls.

The judges were less than amused, with Neale Whitaker growing progressively angrier as he inspected the space.

'That's disappointing isn't it. Even if this had been finished I would feel I was standing in a bit of a grey tomb. There is no relief from grey,' he complained.

However it soon dawned on the judge that the pair had bent the rules.

'Seriously, I can't find anything in here to get excited about,' he complained with distaste.

'There is nothing – if I am not feeling good in here then it's failed. Look at these very sad looking little plants!'

He added: 'The rules of The Block are very clear. You deliver a room on a Sunday. And they haven't done that. I feel slightly cheated by this couple'.

In the end, the score reflected the effort, with the pair scoring a woeful 14 points and coming in last.

Jesse and Mel however were unrepentant, saying they would make up the points next week.

'We don't want to fall into the trap of pleasing the judges,' Jesse insisted with a smile. 'We are thinking abut the end result which is winning The Block'.
