Subaru BRZ tS Returns For 2020 With Lower Price, Smaller Rear Wing

Confirming last month’s report, Subaru USA has brought back the BRZ tS for the 2020 model year after a one-year hiatus.

However, there are a few significant changes compared to the 2018 model, starting with the production run that has been reduced from 500 to 300 units for 2020.

Despite the fact that it’s now more exclusive, the 2020 Subaru BRZ tS (where tS stands for tuned by STI) is also $1,960 cheaper than the 2018 model. It now starts at $31,495, excluding a $900 destination and delivery charge.

A closer look at the car reveals why it is cheaper: the huge adjustable carbon fiber rear wing has gone and has been replaced by a much more modest spoiler. The automaker describes it as a “low-profile rear spoiler” that gives the car a more understated appearance than before.

Mind you, all the other features are still there, including the STI-tuned Sachs dampers and coil springs, STI V-brace in the engine compartment, draw stiffeners in the chassis and sub-frame, and larger Brembo calipers and rotors (four-piston at the front, dual-piston at the rear).

The package is rounded off by matte-bronze 18-inch wheels wrapped in 215/40R18 Michelin Pilot Sport tires. Oh, and you can now have the BRZ tS in only one color (Ceramic White), as opposed to the 2018 model’s choice of three paints.

Subaru has also announced pricing for the rest of the 2020 BRZ lineup, as well as the 2020 WRX and 2020 WRX STI models. Alongside the tS, the 2020 BRZ offers a Limited trim that has a starting price of $28,845.

2020 Subaru WRX STI

The 2020 WRX and WRX STI models add $300 and $400 respectively to the MSRP of the 2019 models. The 268 hp WRX starts at $27,495 while the full-blown 310 hp WRX STI is priced from $36,995 (excluding $900 destination in both cases). For 2020, the STI adds new standard features including Keyless Access with Push-Button Start, redesigned engine bay cooling ducts in the front bumper, and 19-inch aluminum wheels in new dark gray with machine finish.
