Ram Recalls A Single (!) 2019 1500 Pickup With A Faulty Instrument Cluster

Ram announced that it is issuing a recall for the 2019 Ram 1500 – but unlike many recalls that affect thousands of vehicles, this recall impacts just a single pickup truck. Yep, that’s right: just one.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says that the instrument cluster of this particular 2019 Ram 1500 may not properly illuminate, preventing the driver from receiving warnings about the vehicle’s systems and increasing the risk of a crash. This, according to the agancy, means the vehicle “fails to conform with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 101, ‘Control and Displays.’”

A look through documentation from the NHTSA includes four-pages of instructions on how Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will replace this single faulty instrument cluster. It requires removing the old cluster and replacing it with a new one.

What’s especially funny about the whole thing is that, while FCA acknowledges that only a single 2019 Ram 1500 is affected, it doesn’t actually state what the VIN number of that vehicle is, even though it obviously both it and its owner, who will of course be notified directly by the company.

The recall notice says that “the recall is expected to begin (Ed’s note: sic) September 13, 2019” where a dealership local to the impacted pickup will replace the instrument cluster free of charge. The owner will be provided with a loaner car while the repair is being carried out.
