Porsche has tapped two of its most successful drivers to compete in this season’s FIA Formula E Championship.

Neel Jani was first announced as a driver for the Formula E team in December 2018 and has now been joined by André Lotterer.

Both have extensive open-wheel, sports car, and endurance car racing experience and have competed in various championships around the world. They also have 24 Hours of Le Mans victories under their belts, so they are definitely top notch.

Swiss-born Jani started karting in 1998 and quickly found success. He was fast-tracked into the A1 Grand Prix series and, in the early 2000s, tested a series of Formula 1 cars and was Scuderia Toro Rosso’s third driver through the 2006 season. He started endurance racing in 2009 and has competed in the previous 11 runnings of the Le Mans 24 Hours, taking victory with the Porsche team in 2016. He also briefly raced for Faraday Future Dragon Racing in Formula E’s fourth season.

As for André Lotterer, the German was the reserve driver for Jaguar Racing during the 2002 Formula 1 season and has competed extensively in Japan, including in the Super GT and Formula Nippon championships. He won the Le Mans 24 Hours with Audi in both 2012 and 2014.

“As far as our drivers are concerned, we have a very good starting position for Porsche’s works entry in the ABB FIA Formula E Championship with Neel and André on board,” team manager Amiel Lindesay said of the signings. “It is very important to integrate both regular drivers in the preparations early on in proceedings so the team can collaborate fully with the two drivers. Many new challenges await us in our first season in Formula E.”
