New Corvette Stingray's Bose Sound System Is The Most Powerful Ever Used In A Sports Car

The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray may have a 6.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8 which produces an intoxicating soundtrack but General Motors didn’t skimp on the car’s audio system. Quite the opposite, in fact.

The official order guide for the C8 Corvette recently confirmed that the new Stingray comes as standard with a 10-speaker sound system from Bose and can be optioned with an upgraded 14-speaker setup. That’s a lot of speakers for a car with just two seats. According to Bose, it’s the company’s most powerful and highest performing sound system ever for a sports car.

Found at the front of the Corvette’s cabin are a series of 2.5-inch and 3.25-inch drivers while behind a metal cover in the doors are 1.0-inch tweets and 4.0-inch wide-range speakers. Located at the rear are further 5.25-inch wide-range speakers and 3.25-inch drivers. There is also a 10.0-inch woofer in each door that use the inner spaces of the door as an enclosure to enhance low frequencies. These woofers are hidden behind a padded surface as opposed to metal grilles.

Bose customized its existing audio system technologies for the Corvette because of the sports car’s removable hard top. In addition, there is a digital amplifier with 16 customizable equalization channels that ensure a perfect surround-sound experience for occupants.

“From the beginning, we knew we had to have an audio system that carefully balanced the need to isolate the occupants from the engine compartment in the rear, while providing live performance-like audio clarity,” said Tadge Juechter, Corvette executive chief engineer. “The Bose system technology in the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray delivers that careful balance.”

While we’re yet to hear what the new Corvette’s audio system is capable of, it certainly appears as though it will be a music studio on wheels. As for whether Corvette owners will actually listen to music with a roaring V8 behind the heads, that remains a question we can’t yet answer.
