'I'm more in touch with other people's emotions': Karl Stefanovic says his high-profile divorce and Today sacking has changed him for the better and made him 'more empathetic'
Karl Stefanovic has insisted that going through a high-profile divorce and highly publicised TV axing has changed him for the better.
The presenter, 44, lost his job as a host on Channel 9's Today show last year, not long after splitting from his ex-wife Cassandra Thorburn.
The move made him take a six-month break from the spotlight and speaking on KIIS 101.1's Jase & PJ on Friday, Karl credited his ordeal for making him more 'empathetic'.

He was asked whether he thought having a 'divorce dragged through the public eye' and the 'dramas of the Today show' had changed him, prompting him to reply: 'Yes.'
'I think it has,' Karl admitted, before explaining: 'It's made me more empathetic. I'm more present, I listen and I'm much more in touch with other people's emotions'.
'But I guess that's just the process of going through some things,' the TV star added. 'More people out there have gone through more than what I have.'

He came under scrutiny following his split from ex-wife Cassandra and in the months leading up to his departure from Today, he found himself caught in a whirlwind of bad publicity due to his relationship with now-wife Jasmine Yarbrough.
After taking an extended break away from the public eye to focus on himself, Karl is gearing up for his TV return, where he'll host the new series of This Time Next Year.

Teasing what's to come for the new series and his comeback to Channel 9, Karl added: '[It's] really amazing... some of the things that people do are quite incredible.
'I dive into their lives really quickly. I do feel part of it, I feel nervous when they come back next year. I'm genuinely involved.'
This Time Next Year's second season was announced in October 2018, two months before Nine executives decided to replace Karl as host of the Today show.
It's believed his multi-million dollar contract with the network doesn't expire until the end of 2020 and rumours are rife Karl could return to the Today show, after all.
