Jaguar Land Rover Is Banking On These Five New Models

Jaguar Land Rover has five key new models in the works which it hopes will ensure its long-term success, Autocar reports.

The first of these five new models from the British car manufacturer is the next-generation Defender, which is just around the corner and will prove pivotally important for the brand, not because it will sell in extraordinary numbers (it won’t) but because of the iconic vehicle which it will replace and look to out-do. The early signs are good and, when it arrives, Jaguar Land Rover will push forward with the release of a number of other exciting products.

After the Defender, an all-electric successor to the Jaguar XJ is thought to be in the works. A number of plug-in hybrid powertrains will likely be offered later on in the vehicle’s production run.

After the new XJ, Jaguar will release the J-Pace, its new SUV which will be larger and more luxurious than the F-Pace. A press release recently confirmed the existence of this model and reports suggest that like the XJ, it will be available in all-electric guise.

Over at Land Rover, a fifth member to the Range Rover family will be launched in late 2021. This model, previously referred to as the ‘Road Rover’, will slot between the Evoque and Velar and be road oriented. It should also be sold as an all-electric vehicle, becoming the first Range Rover model like it.

The final new Jaguar Land Rover model on the cards for the next few years is an all-new generation Range Rover.

All of the aforementioned models will be based on the company’s flexible MLA architecture, helping the company to slash development costs. JLR is going through a bit of a rough patch and these various models could prove to be its saving grace.
