Lisa Wilkinson, the show's highest-paid host by a significant margin, is believed to be at the centre of discord on the Channel 10 program.
Sources claim that things reached boiling point during The Project's recent 10th anniversary special, which saw Lisa leave early due to feeling slighted.

During the broadcast, the former Today co-host was apparently 'mortified' and felt like an 'unwanted stepchild'.
She had supposedly left 'in a huff' half an hour into the 90-minute show and refused to attend the after-party because a remark by co-host Peter Helliar upset her.
Peter had said, 'We love having you on our show,' which reportedly made Lisa feel like an outsider on the panel.

'Lisa is highly sensitive regarding her public profile,' an insider told Woman's Day of the incident.
'While she tries to keep relationships civil off camera, she is furious that her co-hosts are allowing nasty barbs to continue on air.'
Furthermore, Lisa was also supposedly upset by a recent joke made by panellist Tommy Little about her age.

The fallout of Peter's throwaway comment was first reported by The Australian Media Diary last Monday.
According to the newspaper, Lisa quietly 'shuffled off set' after just 30 minutes.
'Diary hears she was not sighted again, either during the 90-minute-plus extravaganza or the after-party,' the Australian claimed.
