How Similar Is India's 2020 Hyundai Grand i10 Nios To Europe's Upcoming i10?

As Hyundai has just begun teasing the all-new i10 city car for Europe, in India the all-new generation of the closely related Grand i10 Nios has already been unveiled.

Why is not called Grand i10 as its predecessor? Well, that’s to avoid confusion because the Grand i10 Nios will be sold in parallel with the older model which continues to be called Grand i10. The “Nios” in the name of the new car means “More” and is a reference to the fact that the Grand i10 Nios offers “more value, more features, more space and more excitement,” according to Hyundai.

Looking at the exterior photo the similarities with the European-spec 2020 Hyundai i10 teased in a sketch are striking. Given the name, it’s safe to assume that the Grand i10 Nios remains a bigger version of the i10 city car, just like its predecessor which has a slightly longer wheelbase than the outgoing European-spec model.

Styling-wise, the new Hyundai Grand i10 Nios features the brand’s latest “Cascading Grille” design with integrated boomerang-shaped DRLs as well as a surprising amount of creases and curves for a budget city car. It looks well-proportioned although the wheels appear rather small in this photo. Seen from the side, the Grand i10 Nios features surprisingly large rear doors and appears rather tall, hinting at a roomy interior for the segment.

Expect the European version to look quite similar albeit sportier thanks to the shorter wheelbase, bigger wheels, and other dynamic elements. It’s also expected to offer more powerful engines than its Indian sibling.
The Grand i10 Nios will offer two powertrains: a 1.2-liter petrol and a 1.2-liter diesel, both available with manual and automatic transmissions. Detailed specifications are not available at the moment.

Speaking of the cabin, it looks modern enough and functional but does not appear spectacular in any way. Customers can pre-order online the new Hyundai Grand i10 Nios starting today for a $155 fee.
