Ford Performance has unveiled its updated Mustang NASCAR that will compete in next year’s championship season.

The American car manufacturer decided to make the previous year’s Mustang NASCAR share similarities with the GT350 but that’s not the case for 2020. Instead, Ford has facelifted the racer with similar looks to the Mustang GT, including the sharp new headlights and revised daytime running lights which, like all other NASCAR racers, aren’t actually real and instead simple stickers.

The updated Ford Mustang NASCAR was developed in a joint effort between Ford Design and the Ford Performance Technical Center. It will make its racing debut during Speedweeks at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday, February 15, 2020.

While it doesn’t have much in common with the actual production car parked in your driveway, the sixth-generation Ford Mustang nameplate has proven to be a formidable force in the motorsport world. Not only has the Mustang race-car captured five wins during the ongoing 2019 NASCAR season but it has also been dominating the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship taking victories in 17 of the first 20 races of the season and already clinching the manufacturer’s title halfway through the season.

“We’ve always talked about Mustang being a car that was born to race, and it’s been gratifying to see it performing so well in multiple series around the world,” Ford Performance Motorsports global director Mark Rushbrook said about the car’s racing success. “It’s a credit to all of our engineers and teams that have worked so hard to make Mustang a championship contender right out of the box.”
