Claire Danes and Mandy Patinkin won't be back for Homeland's eighth and final season until early 2020
The critically acclaimed national security thriller was originally slated to return to the small screen this June.
Showtime announced Friday at the TCA Summer Press Tour that it was pushing back the premiere date for its popular series Homeland.
The show, which stars Claire Danes, 40, and Mandy Patinkin, 66, will now be back in February 2020 for its eight and final season.

Showtime's new premiere date means that Homeland will have been off the air for two years by the time it returns.
Season seven premiered on February 11, 2018, and ended its run in April.
Shortly after season seven aired, Danes and showrunner Alex Gansa suggested the forthcoming season would be the show's last, which showtime confirmed in August of last year.
Slowed down: The eight season will arrive two years after it was last broadcast. The delay seems to relate the its production in Morocco
'Homeland is an ambitious series, especially in its final season. Alex wants to go out proudly, and he's going to. That has involved production in multiple countries and at times in places that have some issues,' said Showtime entertainment president Gary Levine, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
'It just takes time. There have been no missteps here; it's been a relatively smooth process but a very ambitious production schedule that has taken more time than we thought it would.
'One of the things that we do at Showtime [is a strategy that] we'd rather have it good than fast,' he added.
At any cost: Mandy returns as Saul Berenson, the president's new national security adviser who's willing to put Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) at risk in order to find peace in Afghanistan; pictured July 24
The network made it clear in January that Homeland wouldn't be able to make its original June premiere date.
Part of the delay seems to be related to the show's filming locations in Morocco.
The upcoming 12-episode season is set to show Carrie Mathison (Danes) as she's recovering from being imprisoned in a Russian gulag.
Meanwhile, Saul Berenson (Patinkin) has been named as a national security adviser to a new president (Beau Bridges) who's looking to end the forever war in Afghanistan.
Essential to his efforts is Carrie, whose memory has been damaged by her confinement, but Saul is willing to risk her well-being in order to make progress.
Homeland's final season returns to Showtime on February 9, 2020.
Restarting: Claire's character Carrie was imprisoned in a Russian gulag last season, which significantly impaired her memory; shown in December
