Following the introduction of the Coupe and Convertible, BMW will launch the new 8-Series Gran Coupe in Australia. The new Bimmer will make its local debut in the fourth quarter of the year and will be offered in 840i and M850i xDrive guise.

With a starting price of AUD $199,900 (USD $135,438), the 840i Gran Coupe is definitely not a car for the masses, but it doesn’t pretend to be one either. The 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six delivers 335 HP and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque, allowing it to complete the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint in 5.2 seconds.

The M850i xDrive, on the other hand, gets a 4.4-liter, twin-turbo V8 with 523 HP and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft), dropping the acceleration time to 3.9 seconds, and is priced at AUD $272,900 (USD $184,897). Both versions get the eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

No matter the model, the 8-Series Gran Coupe has space for up to five occupants inside and a 440-liter (15.5 cu-ft) boot. It also features a standard 12.3-inch instrument cluster, full-color head-up display and 10.25-inch infotainment system operated via the touchscreen, iDrive controller, voice and gesture controls or steering wheel controls.

Even the “base” 840i GC gets 20-inch alloy wheels, adaptive M suspension, M Sport brakes, M Sport Package, sunroof, soft-close doors, display key, wireless smartphone charging, Harman/Kardon premium sound system, Merino leather upholstery, electric sunblinds and many more as standard. In addition to that, the range-topping M850i sports BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system, adaptive M suspension with Active Roll Stabilization, Night Vision with Pedestrian Recognition, larger brakes, tire pressure monitor and performance tires.
