2022 VW Tiguan Imagined As A Crossover Coupe, Because Why Not?

Even though we’ve yet to even see a concept, let alone a prototype, word has it that the next-generation Volkswagen Tiguan is already in development and is slated to arrive in 2022.

According to Auto Express, the all-new Tiguan will feature a radical new coupe-like design, making it look far sportier than the current 2nd-gen iteration – which has only been with us for the past three years.

Serving as a basis for the 2022 Tiguan will be an updated version of VW’s MQB platform, meaning the compact people hauler will reportedly share engine options with the upcoming Golf. If true, expect plug-in hybrid variants and even a high-performance R version, the latter possibly featuring a 355 PS (350 HP) turbocharged 2.0-liter four-pot.

If you’ve been wondering what such a vehicle might look like, know you’re not alone. Thankfully, we have these renderings from Kolesa to fall back on, and while we have no reason to believe that the real 2022 Tiguan will look anything like this, the digital drawings definitely serve their purpose, given everything we know so far about the German crossover.

As far as styling is concerned, we can definitely see a little Golf Mk8 in there, as well as a couple of T-Cross traits, such as the the full length taillights at the rear. The front fascia still reminds of us the current Tiguan, which is something that would actually make sense if this was the real deal.

We could also go a step further and speculate that the 2022 Tiguan’s interior design will take after the all-new Golf’s, meaning it should feature a sporty three-spoke steering wheel, joined by a pair of large rectangular displays.
