2020 Peugeot 208 To Be More Expensive Than Ford Fiesta, VW Polo?

The new generation Peugeot 208 is still a few weeks from being launched in the United Kingdom, yet a new report claims that it will be slightly pricier than the two of its chief rivals, the Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Polo, which start at £15,995 ($19,430/€17,398) and £15,735 ($19,114/€17,115), respectively.



Quoting sources close to the French automaker’s British branch, Autocar claims the 2020 208 will be available from £16,265 ($19,758/€17,692), in Active spec, with the 75 HP 1.2-liter petrol engine.


For the 99 HP turbocharged mill, you’ll allegedly have to pay £17,365 ($21,094/€18,888) and the Allure will set you back £18,865 ($22,916/€20,520) with a manual gearbox and £19,965 ($24,252/€21,717) with the eight-speed auto.

The top-of-the-line 208 GT-Line, powered by the 128 HP 1.2-liter unit paired to an auto ‘box will cost you £23,345 ($28,358/€25,393), whereas those who still favor oil burners will have to fork out £18,870 ($22,922/€20,526) for the 1.5-liter diesel.


Pricing for the 134 HP e-208 is expected to kick off at £28,700 ($34,863/€31,218) and go all the way up to £33,300 ($40,450/€36,221) for the top grade, £3,500 ($4,252/€3,807) government grant included. Details surrounding the equipment of the ICE-powered 208 and battery-electric e-208 will be announced in due course.


The electric supermini can hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 8.1 seconds and has a total driving range of up to 211 miles (340 km) with the battery fully charged. Using the 100 kW rapid charging function will get it from 0 to 80 percent in 30 minutes, while plugging it into the 7 kWh Wallbox is an much longer process that takes about 8 hours.
