The 2020 Nissan Maxima goes on sale today in the United States with a starting price of $34,250 for the base S trim level, excluding a $895 destination fee.
That’s a $300 increase over the 2019 Maxima S, but the updated model now sports the Nissan Safety Shield 360 suite of active safety technologies. This includes Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, High Beam Assist and Rear Automatic Braking and is now standard across the mid-size sedan’s range.
Additionally, the previous Premium Package, including Dual Panel Panoramic Moonroof and Intelligent Around View Monitor, is now standard on the SR grade.

Those are all the changes for the 2020 model year, since the Maxima received a mid-cycle update for 2019 that brought several design and trim upgrades as well as more tech. Prices are higher for all trim levels bar the range-topping Maxima Platinum, which at $41,540 is $100 less expensive. The SV adds $340, the SL $200, and the SR a significant $1,920.
The only powertrain available is the 3.5-liter VQ-series V6 that makes 300 HP (304 PS) and 261 lb-ft (353 Nm) of torque and powers the front wheels via an Xtronic CVT transmission.
All Maximas feature a four-wheel independent suspension with monotube rear shock absorbers, while the sportyGR adds unique suspension damper tuning, a larger front stabilizer bar and 19-inch wheels and tires.
