2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB Edition 1 Detailed, Is It Worth An Extra $10k?

Share it:

It has become customary for Mercedes-Benz in recent years to offer Edition 1 versions for every new model and the GLB compact SUV makes no exception.

Available to order right from the sales start but only for the first year of production, the GLB Edition 1 brings a series of aesthetic and equipment upgrades. Those do come at a cost, however: €9,044 (approximately $10,110) above the starting price of the GLB, which is priced from €37,747 in Germany.

That means the cheapest Edition 1 model costs a whopping €46,791 ($52,310) in Merc’s home market. And we’re talking the entry-level GLB 200 model with an 163 PS (161 hp) 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine and front-wheel drive.

So what exactly does Mercedes-Benz offer for the €9,044 premium? Based on the Progressive trim level, the Edition 1 brings a unique look inside and out. Exterior tweask include 20-inch alloy wheels with orange accents, high-gloss black grille with matte chrome inserts, high-gloss black mirror caps and roof rails, as well as matte chrome accents including the front skid plate, door sill inserts, window surrounds, and rear bumper trim.

Tinted rear windows, all-LED lights, and Edition badge on the front fenders (a no-cost option) are also included. The GLB Edition 1 can only be had in Polar White, Digital White, Late Night Black, Iridium Silver, Cosmos Black, and Mountain Grey exterior colors.

Arguably more spectacular is the cabin that’s somewhat reminiscing of the Concept GLB, at least when it comes to the color combination. The Bahia Brown leather interior features Coral Red topstitching and brown open-pore walnut trim imprinted with Coral Red pattern.

Standard features include front heated sports seats, multifunction sports steering wheel in Nappa leather, brushed stainless steel pedals, Artico synthetic leather with Coral Red stitching on the door panels and front center armrest, illuminated “Mercedes-Benz” lettering on the door sills, 64-color ambient lighting, Edition badging, and more.

In Europe, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB Edition 1 can be had with any of the two gasoline engines and three diesel engines available in the lineup, some of which offer standard 4Matic AWD.
