A 2019 Camaro ZL1 1LE was put to the test at the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds, in Florida, the same place where many supercars and hypercars, such as the mighty Bugatti Chiron, demonstrated their prowess recently.
Set loose on the runway that’s 3.22 miles (5.15 km) long and 300 feet (91.44 meters) wide, the muscle car didn’t use the entire length of the course, as the purpose of the test was to see how fast it is during a half-mile run and what speed it can achieve over this distance.

The people behind the power demonstration used a stock 2019 Camaro ZL1 1LE, whose 6.2-liter, supercharged V8 produces 650 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 650 pound-feet (881 Nm) of torque at 3,600 rpm. Tipping the scales at 3,820 lbs (1,733 kg), it needs 3.5 seconds for the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) and has a 202 mph (325 km/h) top speed.
The model came with the standard six-speed manual transmission, which channels the output to the rear wheels. Customers can also opt for a 10-speed automaticthat costs $1,595, bumping the price of the car to $73,290 with the $7,500 ZL1 1LE Track Performance Package.
Unsurprisingly, the rivaling 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500, which broke cover earlier this summer as the company’s most powerful street-legal car ever, is estimated to be only $700 more expensive. Ford’s muscle car has 760 HP available on tap, and the 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye, which costs $200 more than the Chevy, has an even more impressive output of 797 HP.
