'I've actually been pretty traumatised by the judges leaving': Poh Ling Yeow addresses 'flattering' rumours that she'll be a new host on MasterChef but is concerned 'the show as we know it will change'

Last week, Poh Ling Yeow was reported as being one of the chefs set to replace George Calombaris, Matt Preston and Gary Mehigan on MasterChef Australia.

And on Monday, the 46-year-old former MasterChef runner-up addressed the chatter in an interview with The Herald Sun

The chef told the paper: 'I saw [my name] was out there and I was like, 'wow I haven't been told'.

'It's very flattering to be considered but I don't like to count my chickens,' she added.

In fact Poh, who was MasterChef Australia's first ever runner-up in 2009, says she was upset to learn the three judges were departing.

She told the paper: 'I've been pretty traumatised actually by the judges leaving. MasterChef as we know it has changed without them at the helm.'

Poh added that she was concerned and, 'I don't know what to make of it.'

The trio dramatically quit following the breakdown of negotiations with Channel Ten earlier this month.

Reports claim the judges, who had appeared on the program for 11 years, chose to walk away after Ten refused to give them a significant pay boost.

George had faced demands he be dumped from the reality cooking show for underpaying his restaurant staff nearly $8 million.

In a statement - which avoided mentioning Calombaris's scandal - Ten's CEO Paul Anderson claimed the decision followed months of failed talks with the chefs.

Rumours have been rife that  Poh will join Maggie Beer and Curtis Stone to take over as MasterChef's three new judges.

However replacement judges for the 2020 season of the popular show are yet to be named.
