'He loved cocaine more than his own family': Kerry Katona says breaking the news of George Kay's death to their daughter was the 'worst conversation of my life'
Kerry Katona admits telling youngest child Dylan-Jorge her father was dead was one of the most difficult, heart-wrenching conversations of her life.
The former Atomic Kitten star, a mother of five, is still picking up the pieces following estranged husband Kay’s abrupt, drug-related death in a Holiday Inn on July 6 at the age of 39.
But explaining his sudden absence to five-year old DJ, her only child with the one-time rugby league player, without its disturbing context was among her most challenging tasks in the days following his death.
Traumatic: Kerry Katona admits telling youngest child Dylan-George her father was dead was one of the most difficult, heart-wrenching conversations of her life.
‘It was the worst conversation I’ve ever had to have,’ the 39-year old told the latest issue of new! ‘She had some toys bought for her from Morrison’s and she seemed more interested in them than anything.
‘I just told her, “Daddy’s fallen asleep. He hasn’t woken up and he’s in heaven. Which means Daddy’s died.”’
Reflecting on DJ's reaction, the TV personality admits her daughter deals with the tragedy by covering her ears when ever she hears her father's name, and often gets angry when the subject is raised.

Kay was said to have been 'acting erratically' the night before he was found in a distressed state at a Holiday Inn in Sutton Weaver, Runcorn, in the early hours of Saturday July 6.
The Liverpool Echo stated that hotel employees went to check on George at 10am on Saturday morning and found him 'eating a large amount of suspected cocaine'.
The police and the North West Ambulance service were called, with George being taken to Warrington General Hospital for treatment, where he died.

Discussing Kay's substance abuse, Katona admits Class A drugs overwhelmed his life, often at the expense of those closest to him.
'He was my everything for a time and I loved him so much that I put my kids on the backburner and I hate him for that. Maybe I hate myself as well. I hate him for coming into my life and letting me fall in love with him.
'I tried, I really tried with him, but I couldn't save him. he loved that s**t (cocaine) more than he loved me or his daughter.'

While Kay's death has devastated the star, she admits she was stunned by inaccurate claims that she refused her estranged access to their daughter, prompting him to contact father's rights organisation Fathers 4 Justice.
Tweeting after his passing, the organisation accused the former singer of 'child abuse' by denying DJ access to her father, but Katona insists he always had the option of two supervised visits a week, but turned them down.
Setting the record straight, Katona - who hadn't seen Kay for 18-months prior to his death - added: 'I know other people's opinion's don't matter to me, but that tweet really f***ed my head up massively. It was so cruel.
'How dare they dismiss the mental and physical abuse George put me through? And he did have the option to see his daughter!'
