Ex-Ferrari Boss Says Michael Schumacher Is Making Progress And Watching F1 Races

The former team principal of the Scuderia Ferrari Formula 1 team and president of the FIA, Jean Todt, has revealed that Michael Schumacher is continuing to make progress in his recovery from his near-fatal skiing accident in 2013.

Health updates about Schumacher have been few-and-far-between in the years since the accident, with his family preferring to keep things private. However, during a recent interview with Radio Monte-Carlo, Todt revealed that he often visits Schumacher and watched the recent German Grand Prix with him on TV, The Sun reports.

“I’m always careful with such statements, but it’s true. I saw the race together with Michael Schumacher at his home in Switzerland,” Todt revealed. “Michael is in the best hands and is well looked after in his house. He does not give up and keeps fighting.”

Todt went on to add that Schumacher struggles to communicate with him.

“His family is fighting just as much and of course our friendship cannot be the same as it once was. Just because there’s no longer the same communication as before. He continues to fight. And his family is fighting the same way.”

F1 managing director Ross Brawn also has a strong relationship with the seven-time F1 champion and, earlier this year, expressed his support for his family keeping details about his condition under wraps for all these years.

“I am constantly in touch with (Schumacher’s wife) Corinna and I totally agree with their decision. Michael has always been a very private person.”

A documentary about Michael Schumacher is set to be released at the end of the year and it is rumored that it may include the first footage of him at home with his family since his accident.
