Ed Sheeran's Australian hideaway: Singer is linked to a $3million mansion in Victoria's Mount Macedon as 'locals say he is the home's mystery bidder'

Ed Sheeran recently made headlines by expanding his £3.7m (AUD $6.5m) 'mini-village' in his hometown of Suffolk by buying the home of a fourth neighbour.

And it appears that the British singer may now be expanding his property portfolio overseas, after being linked to a mansion in Mount Macedon, located 64km north-west of Melbourne in the Australian state of Victoria.

On Wednesday, the Herald Sun reported that 'locals have suggested he is the mystery bidder on a $3m (GBP £1.6m) mansion' due to his links to the area.

The mystery property is being sold by former Deutsche Bank Australia chairman Clive Smith, and is situated close to the Mt Macedon Hotel.

Last year, Ed was also linked to a nearby $9m (GBP $5m) property in the town, but nothing ever came of the rumours.

Ed is a well-known fan of the quiet town, and has stayed there in the past while visiting Down Under.

Ed has previously stayed in Mount Macedon with his friend, music promoter Michael Gudinski, who calls the town home.

Back in 2017, the chart-topper also performed at tourist landmark the Hanging Rock.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Ed Sheeran's representatives for comment.

In April, Ed's growing property portfolio caused controversy after he purchased the home of a fourth neighbour in Suffolk, England.

He reportedly snapped the £875,000 (AUD$1.5m) house up after she complained 'enough is enough' about his building work.

The superstar musician's burgeoning domestic empire - which has been dubbed 'Sheeranville' - started in 2012, when he bought a modern farmhouse in the town of Framlingham, Suffolk, where he grew up.

Since then, he has bought four neighbouring homes - the last of which was the April purchase of the home of next-door neighbour Sharon Jest.

Ms Jest had objected to his plans to build a tree house and 32ft chapel.
