'I am conscious now of the little boys I am raising': Asher Keddie says she's determined to raise her sons to be 'respectful men' after playing the mother of a misogynist in The Hunting

Asher Keddie has revealed she's now hyperaware of how she's raising her two young sons after playing the mother of a teen misogynist in the SBS mini-series, The Hunting.

The 44-year-old actress is a mother to two boys, stepson Luca, nine, and son Valentino, four, with her husband of five years, Vincent Fantauzzo, 42.

And in an interview with Mamamia on Sunday, the Offspring star confessed her latest role made her contemplate how she raises her own children.

'I am conscious now of the little boys I am raising, there are things that are important to me so that they grow up as healthy, responsible and respectful men,' she said.

Asher said she realised how drastically the world had changed, particularly with the introduction of social media, and claimed it was important for teenagers to have guidance from the adults in their lives.

'There are so many hard-wired ideas we've grown up with that we're now realising are unacceptable,' she continued.

'I have four and nine-year-old sons, and the world that they are navigating is vastly different to the one I grew up in.

'So The Hunting, and the conversations it will inevitably ignite are really necessary, for us to stay on the front foot and to raise emotionally intelligent, respectful human beings.'

In The Hunting, Asher plays Simone, the mother of Andy, portrayed by actor Alex Cusack, a teen who is caught sharing sexually explicit photos of his under-age peers online.

Speaking to InStyle magazine this month, Asher said she found the concept 'quite frightening'.

'It was one of the reasons I chose this role, because I am pretty consumed by my role as a parent and the choices that I'm making [now] to help my boys develop into thoughtful, confident, respectful gentlemen,' she told the magazine.

'It was very appealing to me on that level, because my character receives a really brutal wake-up call about the son that she's been raising - or not had much of a hand in raising - when an inciting event happens in their lives as a result of his behaviour.'
