'When the phone rang it was her': Sudanese-Australian supermodel Adut Akech, 19, describes her surprising call with Meghan Markle... but says the Duchess couldn't stay on the line long as she had to tend to baby Archie

When Adut Akech was asked to appear in British Vogue's September edition she didn't expect a phone call from Meghan Markle.

The Sudanese-Australian supermodel tells The Daily Telegraph that the Duchess herself rang to discuss the issue, on which Meghan was guest editor.

The 19-year-old revealed:  'Vogue told me they had a surprise for me and they would call in a couple of hours and when the phone rang it was her.'

Adut is one of 14 women who appear on the magazine's cover and who Meghan has hand-picked as being, 'Forces for change'.

The model says she was immensely flattered by the call, which she took in her kitchen, and during which the Royal called her 'an inspiration'.

'She said that I was an inspiration, I couldn't believe that she was calling me an inspiration,' she gushed.

However the new mum had to cut the call short to tend to her son, Archie, who was born in May.

Adut explained: 'We didn't get to talk for very long because she had to get back to Archie but when I'm in London in September we're hoping to meet.'

In addition to the honour of appearing on Vogue's cover, the beauty was named the world's No. 1 model in January this year.

The supermodel was also announced as the ambassador for Melbourne Fashion Week earlier this month.

The teenager will be the face of the Victorian fashion event, now in its 25th year.

Adut said: 'I am super excited to be back home and to be back in Melbourne and be involved. It has almost been four years since I last did a Fashion Week here so I am really looking forward to seeing what everybody's going to showcase.'
