The high-riding A1 Sportback is here, but it doesn’t use the usual Allroad moniker, as Ingolstadt has decided to call it the Citycarver instead, probably because it does not offer all-wheel drive like the rest of Allroad-badged Audis.
Described as “the most progressive model” in the new A1 product line, the Citycarver combines a crossover stance with increased customization options.
The main difference compared to the regular A1 Sportback is the 40 mm (1.6 inches) higher ground clearance which makes for easier entry, better visibility, and, according to Audi, the ability to tackle “slightly rough terrain.”
The increase in ride height is achieved by a 35 mm (1.4 inches) higher suspension, with a further 5 mm (0.2 inches) achieved by the larger wheels thatstart at 16 inches in diameter.
There are other elements as well contributing to the crossover look, such as the large, octagonal Singleframe grille typical of Audi SUVs, stainless steel underbody protection, grey/black plastic cladding around the wheel arches and on the redesigned side sills, as well as unique bumpers with a more robust look. Another unique element is the standard S line roof edge spoiler.
Customers can choose from nine exterior colors and a contrasting roof in either Mythos black metallic or Manhattan gray metallic, while the interior offers accent surfaces in mint, copper, orange, or silver-gray.
There are three equipment lines available: advanced, design selection and S line. The S line offers customers the choice between seat covers in cloth/synthetic leather or Alcantara/synthetic leather while the interior design selection includes the contour/ambient lighting package.
While there are no details regarding the engine choices, Audi says the driving experience can be further tweaked via the dynamic package which includes brake disks with sporty red calipers, the Audi drive select dynamic handling system, a sound actuator, and a suspension with adjustable dampers. Models equipped with the dynamic package can be fitted with wheels up to 18-inches in diameter.

Audi will start taking orders for the A1 Citycarver from next month, with the first deliveries expected in fall. The market launch will be marked by the Edition One model (pictured here), which is finished in Arrow Gray or Pulse Orange. Other unique features include 18-inch wheels, a black exterior package, smoked headlights and taillights, contrasting roof and mirror caps, a matte silver Edition One logo on the rear doors and orange or silver interior accents.
