1984 Jeep Grand Wagoneer With 'Vette LS1 V8 Swap Sells For A Cool $61,000

We all know that a modern-day Jeep Grand Wagoneer is coming our way, but it remains to be seen if it will prove to be as well-loved as the originals, in particular those of the early and mid-1980s.

These iconic SUVs are best known for their use of wood trim down the sides and pristine examples often fetch a rather pretty penny nowadays. Case at hand, one of the finest 1984 Grand Wagoneers we’ve come across, which sold for an impressive $61,000 late last week.

Now, before you wonder just how an old American SUV managed to sell for so much, it’s important to note that this example is not stock. That’s because the stock AMC 5.9-liter V8 and three-speed automatic transmission have been replaced with the 5.7-liter LS1 V8 and 4L60E four-speed automatic transmission from a 2001 C5-generation Corvette. The Bring A Trailer listing states that this powertrain pumps out a decent 350 hp and 365 lb-ft (494 Nm) of torque.

To ensure the engine continues to run smoothly for decades to come, the Grand Wagoneer’s owner recently had its water pump, front and rear main seals and belt tensioner serviced. Additionally, its wiring harness has been updated and new spark plugs have been fitted. In addition, there is a throttle body off a Camaro SS, a short-ram cold-air intake, upgraded transmission cooler, customized battery tray, and an aluminum radiator.

The listing reveals that the chassis has traveled 111,000 miles (178,637 km) and the engine swap was performed just 1,500 miles (2,414 km) ago. We suspect that the new owner will enjoy this V8-powered Jeep a lot. Who wouldn’t?
